“I can’t think without my glasses” Vivienne Westwood
With more and more designers starting to lend their name to glasses frames of late, now is the time to pay attention to your next specs purchase! I have been wearing contact lenses for years but have just recently been experimenting with different styles of glasses and have really been having fun with them!
Your glasses have just as much impact on your outfit as any other accessory, and as they are so prominently placed, it’s vital to get them right! It’s also important to consider the occasion you’re wearing them for, as you may need more than one pair (any excuse for a bit of shopping!). If you like to change your look often, it might be worth investing in several cheaper pairs in different colours than one pair of designer (expensive) specs. And remember, you don’t have to purchase your glasses from an optician. If you have an up to date prescription, there are lots of online stores available. Some of these will give you advice for your face shape and some even have a cool tool where you can upload an image of your face and virtually try the glasses on.
Personally, I would avoid the large chain opticians and choose a local, independent optician you can build a good relationship with.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Your Colour Category
Have you had a Colour Consultation yet? The frames of your glasses should compliment your skin tone and work with the colour palette of the rest of your wardrobe.
Your Style Personality
The way you dress is an expression of who you are, so you want to make sure your glasses portray the right image. A Style Consultation will help you discover what your Style Personality is and how to dress to reflect this.
Your Face Shape and Proportions
During a Style Consultation you will receive lots of advice regarding this but basically, to keep your look in balance you should wear frames that are the opposite to your face shape so …
ROUND FACE = ANGULAR GLASSES
Square or rectangular frames that are slightly wider than your face will make your face appear smaller
SQUARE FACE = ROUND GLASSES
Lightweight oval or rounded styles will suit you best.
If you are lucky enough to have an Oval face shape, most shapes and styles will suit you so choose whatever you fancy – just ensure they work with your Colouring and Style Personality.
